Since he is not named in father's Will of 1789, presume he has died previously. Clark had noted elsewhere in her book that repeated marriages of some of the women suggest young men of this generation perhaps dying in military conflicts, and she suggest this a possibility for this particlular Francis Newbold.

Source states that Naomi was married 3 times before John. Source then relates that 'John and Naomi' sold a tract called 'Addition' in 1756, meaning they were married by then. Naomi had a child (Thomas) by her 3rd husband Thomas Layfield circa 1746, so could not have been married to John Newbold before that time. And since John and Naomi's first son, Francis, is estimated born 1747/48, their marriage must have taken place between 1746 and 1748.
